After being removed from office for only two months, former county party secretary Yang Cunhu came back to office and served as the city Environmental Protection Bureau deputy director in charge of the overall work of the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau. Since 2006, Yang managed to make the provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention to pay for his daughter’ college tuition as well as other employee compensations for five years causing influential social concern and later he was dismissed from the post.

In response to the media questioning, higher authorities clarified that the comeback of the Yang was “in line with the relevant appointment provisions which led to the public doubt.

Yang Cunhu lightning-speed comeback as “officials” is definitely not an individual case, to some extent, it exposed the loopholes in the system of accountability of cadres. To avoid the repeat of similar embarrassment, there is an urgent need to close the loose holes in the relevant provisions.

Credibility is the cornerstone of the government. Dismissed officials’ quick comeback phenomenon is shaking the such cornerstone which should receive immediate caution and attention.
