The word China in Chinese means country in the middle land. China (中国) includes two single Chinese characters: “中” (in the middle) and “国” (country). It is pronounced as “zong kwo”.
The story behind the name of this ancient country is that: during the long history of China, people were actively working and living in a fertile land known as the middle land (中原). Countries built in this land all tried to control the whole land which they believed is the center of the universe. Thus the word of China (中国) in the major history did not mean a country but a land located in the “middle of the universe” that every lord with ambition would be eager to rule over.
The middle land area (中原).
