Today 9.12 million candidates attend the national college entrance examination in China

The 2013 National College Entrance Examination (高考), the most important test in China will be held from 7 July to 9 July.

Ministry of Education recently released data which showed that in 2013 the number of national college exam candidates is 9.12 million, representing a decrease of 30,000 compared to 2012 and it is also the fifth consecutive decline since a peak of 10.4 million in 2008.

Analysis believes that the direct causes resulting in decline in the number of candidates include: a rapid decline in the number of births; more students choose to study abroad after high school.
