The spreading of cadmium-polluted rice in China

The “Cadmium-polluted rice” incident (镉米事件) continues to spread in mainland of China with more samples of raw rice from Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong and other places found as cadmium polluted. It is understood that, following the sampling of rice produced in Hunan Province being identified by Guangzhou Food and Drug Administration as cadmium-polluted, relevant departments of Shunde City, Guangdong also found three batches of rice containing excessive level of cadmium produced in Jiangxi Province and Guangdong Province.

Youxian Rice factory, general manager Wang Qizhi said, the rice factory first receives rice from farmers, and then the rice will go through the procedures of shelling, polishing, final color selection and screening and then shipped after packaging; on the whole process there is any sampling and detection of heavy mental. In his impression, He had never heard of anyone getting poisoned after eating the rice, and there is no detection of heavy metals contained the rice.

A rice production department staff of Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province said that companies did not have the ability to detect heavy metals. Only until recently in accordance with the requirements of the Zhuzhou City Bureau of Quality Supervision, the company involved sent a bath of rice for heavy metal detection.
