The employment rate of college graduates fell 7% in Guangdong Province

Guangdong Provincial Department of Education statistics showed that this year alone 700,000 college graduates are looking for jobs; as of May 6, the province’s college graduates employment rate was 52.4%, representing a decrease of 7% compared to last year.

Reporter recently visited the four job fairs and learned through multiple channels, the employment rate dropped significantly. For instance, Guangdong University of Finance Institute has 700 fresh graduates this year those who had found a job accounted for less than 50% of the total graduates; in the major of Civil Engineering, Guangzhou University, in a class of 45 students, only half of the students managed to find a job.

In respect to the employment challenges, some experts suggested fresh graduates shall better manage their salary expectations to cope with the this year’s great difficulties, e.g. RMB 2400 per month shall be considered as acceptable for this year’s situation.
