In accordance with the requirements of government, starting from January 1, 2014, full implementation of the National IV standard for gasoline will be carried out. Sinopec recently announced at a press conference that the company is taking positive actions in upgrading the quality of gasoline with a schedule. Starting from October 1, National V standard for gasoline will be first introduced in Shanghai, 8 cities in Jiangsu Province and 6 cities in Guangdong Province, and National IV standard for gasoline will be carried out in the remaining provinces (cities) at least three months earlier than the deadline.
After the standard upgrade is completed, the gasoline quality nationwide will fully meet the National IV standard which is roughly equivalent to that in the US. The sulfur containment limit shall be further reduced from 150ppm to 50ppm, a decrease of 67%. For following cities where the National V standard for gasoline will be first introduced in China, the sulfur content in oil will be further reduced to 10ppm, a reduction of 80%, equivalent to the world’s highest gasoline quality standards:-
Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Nantong, Taizhou (all in Jiangsu Province) and
Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai (all in Guangdong Province).
