Recent Government measures and subsidies on Carbon Emission
There are several inconsistencies in the data regarding the measurement of GHG between various sources. According to Shahruddin (2006) – vice president (generation division) of Tenaga Nasional Berhad Malaysia, the total carbon emission of Malaysia in 2006 was 187 million tones with the sharing of 21% on manufacturing, 28% on transportation, 47% on power generation and 6% on others. In a separate report from International Energy Agency (IEA 2010), the total carbon emission of Malaysia in 2006 was 158 million tones. Also according to IEA (2010), the total carbon emission of Malaysia was at 180 million tones in 2008 which is a 270% increase since 1990. In another report by World Resources Institute (2003), in 2003, Malaysia emitted 123 million tones CO2 and was ranked 31st of 178 countries.
