Proposal to loosen the “one child policy” in China

With the formal start of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC National Committee) today (03-Mar-13), people’s attention is highly attracted by the various reports on the proposals to be submitted by the over 2,000 committee members.

He Youlin, one of the committee members said that he would again propose to to loosen the “one child policy” in China as China has become one of the countries with the lowest population growth rate. According to him, at present a typical family consist of 7members, 4, 2, 1 for three generations, when the 4 old members retired social problems would appear.

China started to implement the “one child policy” in order to control the rapid growth of the total population. The reduction of the new born babies also contributed to the well known “population bonus” in China facilitating the country to foster a faster economic growth. But the recent statistics released by the government already indicates that the turning point of population bonus in China showed up in 2012 rather than the long anticipated 2015.
