Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Hong Kong’s political system invites no foreign intervention

A few days ago, the U.S. Consul-General Stephen M. Young expressed his views on the constitutional development of Hong Kong. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei responded that the issue of constitutional development of Hong Kong is internal affairs, invited no foreign government or official intervention in the routine press conference on the 17th.

Hong Lei said, we noted that the remarks of the U.S. Consul-General Stephen M. Young. The expression by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman on May 16 stated our principled position over the remarks.

Honglei Jiang stressed that since Hong Kong’s return to China, the practice of “one country, two systems” achieved universally acknowledged success, the majority of the people of Hong Kong are legally entitled to the rights and freedoms. We hope that the parties concerning the issue of constitutional development of Hong Kong stop making irresponsible remarks, stop interfering in the internal affairs of Hong Kong.
