Police: Be vigilant against new counterfeit money beginning with “PL078574”

According to the ChinaNews, police of Jiangsu Province issued the alert about a new version of counterfeit money beginning with “PL078574”. Police advised that the “PL078574” counterfeit money (假币) is a new version of hundred renminbi (RMB) counterfeit money with rather closed touching-feeling compared with the authentic money.

Characteristics of the new counterfeit money include:

Beginning with PL078574;

A shorter length of 2 mm compared to the real currency;

No color change of the number “100” located in the lower-left corner of the front of the counterfeit money through different angles;

No “100” watermark in the top right corner of the front of the counterfeit money;

The middle wire inside the counterfeit money is not clear, and also intermittent.

Police said the counterfeit money cases usually occurred in the outskirts and suburban areas. Suspects usually approached two ways: Used the fake money in exchange for change during shopping or take a taxi; Used the fake money during trading, the suspects changed the real currency with counterfeit money with various excuses.

According to the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China, sale, purchase of counterfeit currency or knowingly transport counterfeit currency in a relatively large amount will be subject to three years imprisonment or criminal detention, and a 20,000 – 200,000 yuan fine will be imposed; in case of huge amount of counterfeit currency is involved, three to ten years imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 – 500,000 yuan will be imposed; in case of extraordinary amount of counterfeit currency is involved, more than 10-year imprisonment or life imprisonment, and a 50,000 – 100,000 yuan fine or confiscation of property will be imposed.
