Large number of floating dead pigs found in Shanghai Huangpu River
On March 9, a large number of floating dead pigs were found in the Jiang Songjiang section of the famous Shanghai Huangpu river. As of 15:00, March 12, 2013, Shanghai had dispatched 233 salvage vessels and collected 5,916 dead pig. According to the investigation, the dead pig ear marks showed that the bodies should be from Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province which is near Shanghai and in the upstream of Shanghai.
This morning, a media press in response to this event was held in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province and the officials announced that results of the expert group investigation in field showed that at present there is no animal epidemic. On the other side, the Shanghai government declared that the water quality is normal.
In an earlier local media report a few months ago, there had been large-scale pig dieing according to the statistics from the Xinfeng Town in the Jiaxing City which showed that 10,078 pigs died in January while the number was 8,325 in February.
Obviously, it is reluctant to persuade the residents to believe that the water is not affected as people see so many dead pigs floting in the river, the source of their tap water. Thus it is highly anticipated that the event can be investigated completely.
