The Shanghai Bund
According to report of “Morning News” on 13 Apr 2013, after years of research and feasibility studies, and selection of a number of transformation programs, yesterday the “179 project” was officially launched in Shanghai. The project is tentatively named as “Bund – Central” and it will be shopping center combining retail, leisure multiple formats of entertainment, boutique hotel, cultural history, the expected opening day is in 2016 and become a new landmark of Nanjing Road, the Bund, Shanghai.
The Bund (simplified Chinese: 外滩; traditional Chinese: 外灘) is a waterfront area in central Shanghai. The area centres on a section of Zhongshan Road (East-1 Zhongshan Road) within the former Shanghai International Settlement, which runs along the western bank of the Huangpu River, facing Pudong, in the eastern part of Huangpu District. The Bund usually refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of the road, as well as some adjacent areas. It is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Shanghai. Building heights are restricted in this area.
