By | February 11, 2013

In Chinese society, people are addressed by their social status, gender, surname as well as closeness relating to the speaker.

For example, if the Chinese name is like: Xie LiLi (female). Since the surname is put ahead of the given name, we can address her as: Zhang Xiao Jie (Miss) or Zhang Taitai (Mrs) if married.

In another example, if one is the boss of a company. He or she usually will be addressed as xx (sur name) zong (means the person in charge).
