Saturday, March 9 (10:00), a press conference during the second session of the National People’s Congress meeting was held at the Great Hall where the Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met the domestic and also the international media in respect of China’s foreign policy and foreign relations.
[Japan, “Asahi Shimbun” reporter]: “Mr. Minister, what I want to ask is about the Sino-Japanese relations. China and Japan have been confronting each other for six months over the Diaoyu Islands issue, relations between the two countries does not improve recently. Will there be any consultation rules developed in order to avoid the occurrence of the Diaoyu Islands confrontation and emergencies? China and Japan face a lot of difficulties, is there any better solution?”
[Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi]: Since ancient times, the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been part of China’s territory, the root of the problem is caused by the Japanese illegally stealing and occupying the island, thus the current situation solely made by Japan.
[Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi]: the actions of the Japan violate China’s territorial sovereignty, challenge the fruits of victory of World War II and the post-war international order, damage the Sino-Japanese relations, and it also undermines the stability of the region. Chinese government’s standing firm, shows a strong will and determination of the Chinese government and people to safeguard the national sovereignty and territory.
