According to the Russian newspaper report on May 14, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) issued an official proposal, recommended that people can incorporat edible insects into their daily diet which can help to overcome the food crisis, and can effectively reduce environmental pollution.
Recommendation pointed out that one of the main obstacles to many Western countries is that they are reluctant to take insects as a source of protein intake by considering them as disgusting.
According to the FAO, edible insects which are fit for human consumption cover 1900 kinds of insects, including beetles, caterpillars, bees, ants and wasps. Edible insects is an important source of nutrition for malnourished children. Because many insects contain high concentrations of fatty acids. The FAO also pointed out that the insect breeding compared to livestock brings much less harmful to the environment.
