On the evening of May 18, David Beckham retired from football, bringing an end to a glittering career on the field. As an excellent sports star, a fashion gentleman, but also a good husband, a good father and a good son and at the same time being interested in charity, Beckham has absolutely surpassed the sports stars scope and has created brilliant commercial value for himself.

In 2012, Beckham’s income of $ 48,340,000 was ranked the top outside the U.S. sports with a total net worth of over 310 million U.S. dollars.

Lure of China

U.S. and European markets are clearly not enough for Beckham who is behind the European football industry. This is mainly reflected in the 2008 and 2012 as huge market demand for the European Super Football Club was explored in the East Asia including China.

In China, for example, in the past few years, 12 European clubs have been invited to play in China, mostly commercial games. Insiders said that the concept of China’s sports industry was just beginning after the Olympic Games. With building of new venues and lack of sufficient contents, European top 10 clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan had almost all been watched closely by the sports exchange companies. In this context, Beckham 2011 signed his first Chinese brand endorsement for a toothpaste enterprise.

In 2013, IMG facilitated Beckham’s endorsement for Chinese Football Association Super League (中超), though the cost for endorsement has not been disclosed.

An insider told reporter that these superstars such as David Beckham endorsement fee is round € 3,000,000. which is a high price. It is difficult to find sponsors. Suit brand, sportswear brand, underwear, razors, toothpaste, tobacco and alcohol are excluded from endorsements; the remained choices are within a small range. Beckham has a huge influence in China; it is a matter of time how such influence can be developed”
