Southwest China (Region)

Southwest China (Chinese: 西南地区; pinyin: Xīnán) is one of the seven major geographical regions in China divided by both physical and human characteristics. In fact, the classification is clearly stated in the Middle School textbook ‘Physical geography of China’ (see below). At the same time, this regions is part of bigger West Regions defined by economic geography.

On the 22nd of June, the 37th World Heritage Conference passed and included the Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, China (红河哈尼梯田文化景观) into UNESCO’s World Heritage, thus the number of World Heritage sites in China has been increased to 45, surpasses Spain and becomes the country with the second largest number of World Heritage sites, second only to Italy’s 48 World Heritage Sites.
