A boy confirmed as infected with H7N9 following his father in Shandong Province

On April 28, reporter learned from the Health Department of Shandong, Shandong Province a new cases of human infection of H7N9 avian influenza had been confirmed, the father of the boy was the first confirmed case of human infection with the H7N9 avian influenza.

The 4-year-old boy, Zhang, lives in urban area of Zaozhuang City. On April 27 he exhibited fever symptoms in children, on April 28 the Shandong provincial-level expert group made the judgment that the boy had been confirmed as infection of H7N9 avian influenza according to the results of laboratory tests and clinical manifestations and epidemiological investigation. Currently, the boy is still stable and is a hospital for treatment in Zaozhuang City. According to the initial findings and conclusion of the study at home and abroad, no evidence of human-to-human infection has been found.

Up to now, Shandong Province reported 2 cases of human infection with the H7N9 avian influenza.
