On the afternoon of 21 May, reporter learned from Hunan Public Security Bureau the found remains has been confirmed by DNA matching as the missing girl Yanglijun who had fallen into an uncovered manhole on 22 March and washed away.

On 19 of May, Xiangyin County police found the body of a woman in nearly 90 km downstream of the Xiangjiang River, the body had been badly decomposed, the identity thus cannot be distinguished. On the morning of the 20th, Xiangyin County police sent the body DNA samples to the Yueyang Municipal Public Security Bureau Criminal Investigation Unit for technical appraisal.

The person in charge of the Yueyang Municipal Public Security Bureau Criminal Investigation Detachment on the afternoon of 21 May told Xinhua News Agency reporter that the extracted DNA of the found woman body had been compared with the missing girl Yang’s mother, Hunan Provincial Public Security Office of Criminal Investigation finally confirmed that biological mother-daughter relationship was found which means that the body was the missing girl Yang.

Case review

On evening of March 22, more than 9:00 pm, a heavy rain came suddently to Changsha. In the urban area of the city, a 21-year-old girl, namely Yanglijun (杨丽君) accidentally fell into an uncovered manhole and immediately washed away, and missing despite large scaled rescue efforts.
