Be careful of “litchi disease”: No more than 300g of litchi per day

“Litchi disease(荔枝病)” is a hypoglycemia, symptoms include dizziness and weakness. The nutritionists explain that lychee store large amounts of fructose, fructose even as energy substances must first be converted to glucose in the liver in order to be absorbed by the body; at the same time the excessive intake of fructose will trigger the production of large amounts of insulin, forcing the liver to lower blood glucose levels which results in the reduced supply of glucose in the blood. Coupled with a high intake of lychee, the intake of other foods will be reduced; the supply of glucose thus will be further reduced leading to hypoglycemia. Nutritionists suggest that the daily consumption of lychee shall not exceed 300 grams.
