All 18 crew were rescued and the bridge was claimed to be unharmed.

Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is the first self-built bridge by China on the Yangtze River which is a double-rail bridge. Since the construction 53-year ago, there is still endless traffic everyday, and the bridge is overwhelmed: the actual traffic flow is 8 times more than the standard designed flow volume. Every 5 minutes a train will cross the bridge. Despite being a busy bridge, the bridge piers for many years have not been protected to prevent crushing accidents with vessels.

At present, the Bureau of Maritime Affairs is carrying out further investigation into the cause of the accident, and organizing the salvage work.
