The “Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy Night” ended yesterday in Beijing, the overall trading amount reached 1.61 billion yuan. Ming Dynasty, the famous painter Tang Yin (Tang Bohu)’s “松崖别业图(Song Ya Bie Ye Tu)” was sold for over 70 million yuan (US$ 11.2 million), refreshing the world record for his works. The night also showed the slowly warming trend in the auction market in China.

Profile of Tang Yin

Tang Yin (Chinese: 唐寅; pinyin: Táng Yín; Cantonese Yale: Tong Yan; 1470–1524), courtesy name Tang Bohu (唐伯虎), was a Chinese scholar, painter, calligrapher, and poet of the Ming Dynasty period whose life story has become a part of popular lore. Even though he was born during Ming Dynasty, many of his paintings (especially paintings of people) were illustrated with elements from Pre-Tang to Song Dynasty (12th century).
