80% “imported milk powder” are fake: Stricter control to be imposed imported dairy products

  According to the ChinaNews, the new “Import and export of dairy products inspection and quarantine supervision and management measures” will be implemented on the coming May 1st. 

On April 19, the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued announcement in relate to the “measures”, and for the first time defined the concept of “first time imported products” and published a catalog of test items for non-first-time dairy products, including up to 34 test items for milk-based infant formula. At the same time, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine required that attachment of any award-winning logo should be based on the provision of recognized proof through the diplomatic channel.

Since the happening of the Hero nutradefense (美素丽儿) baby formula crisis in China, the quality of foreign milk powder is widely doubted. The new “measure” will undoubtedly provide more stringent quality control targeting on the imported milk powder. On April 18, foreign media exposed, that “80% of the foreign milk powder” sold in China were “created” specially for the Chinese market, which were “fake”, similar reports became the focus of the news so that the “foreign milk powder” true and false issue are now widely concerned.imported milk powder are fake1
