300-million-year-old “living fossil” found in Ningbo

Recently, the oldest “living fossil” Psilotum Nudum was found in Xiangshan County, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Procince. Psilotum Nudum was originated in the Devonian period around 300 million years ago, it is even elder than another “living fossil” Ginkgo. It is so far the oldest and most primitive plant in the world.

“Psilotum survives with the minimum temperature of 8 ℃ -10 ℃, Ningbo is not within the scope of its distribution, it is really a surprise to find it here!” Ningbo City plant expert Linhai Lun said.
