188 cases with abnormal reactions after injection of Hepatitis B vaccine in China

In response to the public concerns over the safety of domestically produced Hepatitis B vaccine after several cases of baby death, yesterday the China CDC released statistics showing the records of vaccination abnormal reactions of hepatitis B vaccine and claimed that the vaccine is safe.

According to relevant person in charge, Wang Huaqing, from 2000 to December of this year, there were 188 suspected cases in relate to having abnormal reactions after the injection of hepatitis B vaccine. Among them, 18 people were killed ultimately and there were four or five death cases per year in recent years.

He explained that the abnormal reactions mainly included anaphylactic shock, edema, etc. And among all the 188 cases, there were not quality problems found about the vaccine.
