116 Chinese gold miners arrested in Ghana

According to the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, it is understood that in recent local police actions, 116 Chinese citizens suspected of illegal mining were arrested and will be sent back to China. Chinese Embassy in Ghana has sent staffs to visit the arrested Chinese and asked for humanitarian treatment of the Chinese detainees and ensure their safety and legitimate rights and interests.

According to Chinese workers, Ghana currently has around 20,000 to 30,000 Chinese gold miners. Among Ghana’s annual output of 98 tons of gold half of the gold is mined by Chinese people.
